STRATS

Serious game for students

This project was designed in partnership with 3 teachers of Kedge Business School. The objective of STRATS is above all to be a learning tool for students in order to explain to them the use of PESTEL methodology in a more fun way.

What is the PESTEL method?

PESTEL is a strategic analysis method that makes it possible to identify external factors (opportunities and threats) that may have a positive or negative impact on a company. It provides an overview of a society's environment.

It thus addresses several fields:

P
to Politics : all decisions taken by governments (fiscal policy, foreign trade, etc.);

E to Economical : all the factors that impact purchasing power and consumer behavior (disposable income, unemployment, interest rates, etc.);

S to Sociological : set of social characteristics influencing purchasing power (demography, level of education, income distribution, leisure and work attitude, social mobility, etc.);

T to Technological : all technological innovations likely to disrupt the market (public spending on research and development, new patents, discoveries, etc.);

E to Environmental : all factors related to the environment influencing the way the activity is carried out (waste treatment, pollution emissions, etc.);

L to Legal : all laws and regulations impacting the legal framework in which the company operates.

STRATS identity design

The graphic design of the game was mainly focused on nature of the project. This tool aims to co-creation and at the learning. As we will see below, one of the main forms chosen for the game board, refers to collaborative work and is presented in hexagonal shape. The hexagon is an interesting layout because it offers the possibility of decompose in 6 big triangles and 80 small. In our case, the PESTEL methodology including 6 letters, each representing an important base of the game, fits perfectly into the framework established by the chosen form. Thus, the identity of the game and the way of playing are also transformed, which is an interesting basis for establishing the Storytelling of the graphic design of STRATS.

This first version of STRATS addresses the subject of “Video game”.

Board game design

The board is an important part of the game because it's where everything is played out. collectivity. One of the main difficulties in current games, which are often square or rectangular in shape, is the placement of players. The choice of the hexagonal shape leads to a better distribution of areas of action of the game, thus facilitating their bouts to each of the participants.

The STRATS is available in 6 trays of 6 colors. Each color represents a team of 2 to 6 players, with a maximum total of 36 players.

The cards of the game

A tray in hexagonal shape implies a design of the maps in triangular shape. The board being divided into 6 big triangles, P, E, S, T, E, L, the cards are dealt to the players on each team to be placed in their respective zone.

The recto Represents the Back of the card as well as the topic which the map refers to. The verso of the map contains the essential information to help the player associate Each card has its corresponding category correctly.

The STRATS animator knows the answers through a visual code hidden in the cards. ;)

The cards below are interactive :

Backstage: Prototype & Tests

Prototyping the game was a crucial element in the design of this project. This phase made it possible to know the physical constraints And the improvements to be brought to the various elements of the game. She also played an important role in ergonomics And theutilizing STRATS packaging, cards and trays.

A great collective achievement!
